Cookie & Storage Notice

Effective and last updated: October 18, 2026

HTML Editor uses essential browser storage for local editing and, with your permission, optional preference storage and Google Analytics cookies. Unlike cookies, localStorage and IndexedDB records are not automatically attached to web requests.

1. What is stored

IndexedDB: markup-workspace
The drafts store contains document HTML, titles, save timestamps, and internal writer identifiers. The workspace store contains document identifiers, tab order, the active tab, and closed tabs. These support autosave and restoring the workspace. They remain until cleared or removed by your browser; they do not have a fixed expiry.
localStorage: markup-theme
Your light or dark theme preference, saved only with permission and retained until you withdraw permission, clear it, or your choice expires.
localStorage: markup-wrap
Your source line-wrapping preference, saved only with permission and retained until you withdraw permission, clear it, or your choice expires.
localStorage: markup-external-images
Whether external image loading is enabled. It is off by default and saved only with permission. It is removed when you withdraw permission, clear it, or your choice expires. Accept all does not turn external images on.
localStorage: markup-cookie-consent
A necessary record of your separate preference-storage and Google Analytics choices, the notice version, and the time of your choice. Both acceptance and rejection are remembered for 180 days, after which we ask again. This record contains no document content or user identifier.
Cookies: _ga and _ga_<measurement-id>
Google Analytics first-party cookies distinguish browser visits and maintain session information. They are set only with Analytics consent. Our integration sets a maximum cookie lifetime of 180 days without automatic renewal; browsers may shorten it. Withdrawal removes accessible Analytics cookies. Google's retention of collected data is separate and depends on the Analytics property's settings and Google's policies.
Session memory
Undo and redo history, editor selections, cursor and scroll positions, and temporary processing data. These are not saved across page reloads.

2. Cookies and optional resources

Essential storage supports requested editor functions. Optional preference storage remembers editor settings, and optional Google Analytics measures site usage. We do not use advertising cookies. The first-visit banner lets you Accept all, Reject optional, or Manage settings. Preference storage and Analytics are off until you actively allow each category. No Analytics script or measurement request is loaded before consent. Continuing to browse or closing the settings window does not grant permission. These choices are not bundled consent to the Terms of Service or Privacy Policy.

Google Cloud hosting still processes network requests to serve the site. Optional external images or links may connect to providers with their own cookie and storage practices. See the Privacy Policy for these separate activities.

3. How to manage or remove data

Open Cookie settings from the editor footer, the Privacy dialog, or the footer of any legal document to change your choice at any time. Essential document storage stays active. Accept all enables editor preferences and Google Analytics. Reject optional removes saved editor preferences and accessible Analytics cookies and stops further collection, while keeping editing available. You can also toggle Remember editor preferences and Google Analytics separately, then select Save preferences. Existing choices from before Analytics was introduced are not treated as Analytics consent; we ask again. Changing these permissions does not delete documents or reset settings already in use in the current tab.

  1. Export documents you want to keep before deleting local data.
  2. In the editor footer, open Storage management, select Clear all documents, and confirm Clear local data. This removes open and closed documents, tab layout, and current undo and redo history, then starts a blank document.
  3. To also remove saved preferences, Analytics cookies, and the stored permission record, use your browser's site-data settings for this site's address. Close other editor tabs first to prevent an open page from saving data again.
  4. Select Block external images above the visual editor to stop further image loading. Browser settings can also restrict local storage, though autosave and preference persistence may then fail.

These controls do not delete exported files on your device, emails you have sent, or provider-held hosting or Analytics information. Withdrawing consent cannot undo data already sent to Google. Data is scoped to the site address and browser profile; other browsers, devices, and site addresses must be managed separately.
